Solutions for workout video stopping / freezing / buffering
Nothing ruins a workout flow quite like a freezing screen. We know how frustrating it can be when you are ready to move, but the video keeps stopping and starting.
The good news is that this is rarely a problem with the video itself. It is usually caused by internet speed or the device managing too much data at once.
Here are the simplest steps to fix the "tech gremlins" so you can get back to your exercise.
1. The Simplest Fix: Lower the Video Quality
Our videos are recorded in high definition, which requires a strong internet connection. By lowering the quality slightly, the video uses less data and is much less likely to freeze.
- Step 1: Look at the bottom right corner of the video player. You will see a small gear icon or a button that says Auto.
- Step 2: Click or tap that icon.
- Step 3: Select Quality.
- Step 4: Choose 540p.
The video will look slightly less "crisp," but it should play smoothly without stopping.
2. Close Other Tabs and Apps
If your computer or tablet is trying to do too many things at once, it slows down.
- Close extra browser tabs: If you have several other websites open at the top of your screen, close the ones you aren't using.
- Close other apps: If you have email, Facebook, or other programs/apps running in the background, close them down so your device can focus purely on playing your workout.
3. The "Turn It Off and On Again" Method
It is a cliché for a reason—because it works! If your device hasn't been turned off in a while, it might just be "tired."
- Completely restart your computer, tablet, or phone.
- Once it turns back on, open only the Be Mobile website and try the workout again. This clears out the temporary memory and refreshes your internet connection.
4. Restart Your Internet Modem
Sometimes your internet connection just needs a "refresh." If your Wi-Fi has been running for months without a break, it can slow down.
- Go to your internet modem and turn it off at the wall switch or unplug the power cord.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait a few minutes for all the lights to come back on.
This often clears the line and improves the speed significantly.
5. Download the Video in Advance
If your internet connection is generally slow or unreliable, the best option is to download the workout before you start.
This saves the video onto your device so you don't need the internet at all while you exercise.
- Step 1: Look for the green Download Video button.
- On a computer: It is usually underneath and to the right of the video.
- On a mobile/tablet: It is usually below all the comments, scroll down until you see it.
- Step 2: Click the button. The video file will open in a new window and may start playing automatically.
- Step 3: Save the file.
- Google Chrome: Click the three dots in the bottom corner of the video ➝ Click Download.
- Safari/iPad: Tap the 'Share' icon (a square with an arrow pointing up) ➝ Tap Save to Files.
6. Check for Browser and Device Updates
If your computer, phone, or tablet is running on old software, it might struggle to play modern videos.
- Switch Browsers: If you are using Safari (Apple) or Microsoft Edge, try using Google Chrome instead. In our experience, Chrome handles video playback very well. It's free to install and works well on any device (including Apple products).
- Browser Updates: Make sure you are using the latest version of Google Chrome (or whichever browser you choose to use).
- System Updates: Check your device settings to see if there is a "Software Update" available for your phone, tablet, or computer. Keeping your device updated is like servicing your car—it keeps everything running smoothly!
We hope this gets you back to your workout!
If you have tried all the steps above and the video is still freezing, it is likely a deeper issue with your specific device (your computer, tablet, or phone) rather than the website. In this case, we recommend asking a tech-savvy friend, family member, or a local computer technician to take a look at your device for you.
